Library in China is inspired by the sea and the result is surreal

Book waves represent the ocean of knowledge.

The city of Tianjin in China has a new library of envy to any other. The construction of this building was inserted in the project of a local cultural center with four more buildings.

The architects responsible are the MVRDV who have partnered with the Institute of Urban Design and Planning of Tianjin. The building was inspired by the sea, with waves of books emerging from the floor to the top of the building.

In the center of the Library is a globe that determines all the design around the libray. The shelves arranged to look like waves of knowledge holding 1.2 million books with chairs and steps to access the five levels of construction.

With 33,700 m², the cultural center opened in October of this year and is already one of the main attractions of the city. The construction of the five buildings took three years.

Below are some pictures from the library.
