Horror in Japan: a mother confessed that she killed her four babies and buried them in concrete-filled buckets
A 53-year-old woman, Mayumi Saito was arrested in Osaka on Tuesday after confessing that she killed and buried her four babies in concrete-filled buckets, because she could not take care of them.
She confessed to putting the bodies into concrete from 1992 through 1997 because she had been too poor to raise them, but she had been filled with guilt over the years.
The mother gave birth to the children, but each was buried in concrete-filled buckets that she still conserves and even moved with her when she relocates.
Osaka police said they found human remains in four buckets in Saito’s condominium in the Neyagawa district after investigating its contents.
NHK reported that Saito explained to the investigators that she thought that she was not going to be able to raise them and that she did not have anyone to talk with about the matter.
Researchers must now determine whether the woman killed the babies immediately after birth or if they were stillborn, local media reported.
Mayumi Saito was detained as a suspect in the crime on charges of abandoning bodies, a day after she turned herself in at the police station.
Japan, which reached its historic minimum level of crime in 2016, has witnessed several cases in recent weeks, such as that of Takahiro Shiraishi, a 27-year-old youth from Tokyo, who confessed to killing and dismembering nine people within a period of two months.
