Our faces can reveal a lot about who we are: whether we are happy or sad, whether we are lying or telling the truth and, according to some reports, if we are narcissistic or protective .
However, new research sheds light on another aspect that our face can tell the world: the amount of sexual desire we have.
The research, led by Steven Arnocky, an associate professor of psychology at Nipissing University, North Bay, Ontario, Canada, reveals that people with the rounder and wider faces have more libido.
As Indy100 points out , the researchers found a positive link between the facial width-height ratio and sexual appetite.
For the study, published in the Archives of Sexual Behavior , the experts conducted two different surveys involving 459 students, both men and women.
In the first study, 145 college students who had partners completed several questionnaires about their interpersonal behavior and their sexual desire. They were photographed to determine their facial width-height ratio, Science Daily points out .
In the second survey, 314 students made the extended version of the first, which also included questions about their sexual orientation, whether they had set their horns on their partner and on their sociosexual orientation. Basically, researchers were trying to figure out how much these youngsters were comfortable with the idea of casual sex.
The findings suggest that that facial proportion can be used to predict a person’s measure of sexuality and that men and women with a somewhat square and wide face appear to have a higher libido than other face shape.
“These findings suggest that facial features can convey important information about human sexual motivations,” Arnocky said in a statement. .
Some famous faces that possess these characteristics are those of the actor Leonardo DiCaprio, the models Chrissy Teigen and Richard Mofe Damijo, or the singer Selena Gomez.
The research also reveals that men with the widest face did not view sex as uncompromisingly so, and that there was a correlation between men with these features and their liberal attitude to the idea of cheating on their partner.
There was a correlation between men with these traits and their liberal attitude at the idea of deceiving their partner.
Although the study does not fully explain the correlation between facial features and sexual appetite, it does point out that recent research suggests that it may be related to ” circulating testosterone.”
According to the study’s authors, “this research offers the first evidence that indicates the relationship between the facial width-height ratio and the sexual psychology of women.”
Obviously further research is needed to determine this correlation, but for now you can pick up a mirror, study your face, and try to find out if these findings are true. The experiment is fun.
