‘Oh Happy Day’ singer Edwin Hawkins dies 74

Grammy award-winning gospel singer Edwin Hawkins, famous for the hit song “Oh Happy Day,” passed away at age 74.
Hawkins died Monday at his home in Pleasanton, California. He had suffered from pancreatic cancer, his publicist Bill Carpenter told The Associated Press.

His band, The Edwin Hawkins Singers, reached the top of the charts with “Oh Happy Day,” which began as a local favorite in the San Francisco Bay area and became an international hit in 1969.
