Arsene Wenger received his touchline ban after telling referee Mike Dean, “You are not honest,” an FA report has revealed.
Wenger was angry after opponents West Brom were awarded a late penalty at the Hawthorns to level the match on December 31st, and received a three-match touchline ban plus a £40,000 fine for using inappropriate language and behaviour towards the match officials in their changing room after the game.
Dean’s account of the incident describes the Arsenal manager as “very aggressive“ towards him, “saying ‘you’re not honest’ on numerous occasions”.
Dean’s report continues:
“I replied, ‘So you’re calling me a cheat.’
“He replied, ‘I maintain what I say, you’re not honest.’
“He then said, ‘You’ve done this to us many times before, you’re supposed to be professional, you’re a disgrace.'”
