Barcelona on Friday afternoon, Lionel Messi made it clear that he has no problem being rotated by coach Ernesto Valverde.
The Argentinian has often been the only player to play every minute of each game, but his age and the needs of the team mean that he’ll fall into line along with everyone else.
“The coach decides,” he said to reporters.
“I speak to him often and I have no problem in rotating, like my other teammates.
“Luckily, things are going well and we passed a tough test against Espanyol.
“We’re happy about how things are going, although there is a lot left to play for.”
Philippe Coutinho enjoyed a wonderful cameo debut against Espanyol, coming on in the last 22 minutes and thrilling the crowd.
“The new coach was clear from the beginning,” Messi continued.
“He said what he wanted and we adapted.
“We got strong defensively and bought players of great quality, that solve problems.
“Both Coutinho and Yerry were have arrived and we’re happy to have them with us.”
Asked about winning another Ballon d’Or, the Argentinian reiterated his desire for team trophies above all.
“I have already said that my goal is not individual prizes,” he noted.
“But to get all the titles in play.
“I hope we finish in the best way and we are on the right track.”
“Our goals are the same as we have every season; try to win everything.”
