Group calls for alternatives to APC, PDP as it condemns Obasanjo’s statement

The Resource Centre for Human Rights and Civic Education (CHRICED) condemned former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s motive for his letter in which he asked President Muhammadu Buhari not to contest for the second term in office.

Punch reports that CHRICED in a statement by its executive director Ibrahim Zikirullahi on Friday, January 26, in Abuja said Obasanjo ”like many other entrenched elite, succeed in using the miseries of the citizens for their own self-serving ends.”

The statement read: ”While it is true that there is an urgent need for a veritable alternative to the current rudderless and sinking APC/PDP captaincy, it is our firm belief that it is the Nigerian people who should take collective ownership of that important process of taking Nigerians back from the political vagabonds.

”It is the Nigerian people who have borne the brunt of the PDP/APC misrule since 1999 that should galvanise themselves to create a grassroots-led alternative to bring Nigeria out of the doldrums.”
The group also said it was not deceived by ”the former President’s attempt to use the collective misery of the Nigerian people to serve as the launch pad for his unending political schemes.”
