The Japanese video game maker, Nintendo, announced a few hours ago that it will join the American film studio, Illumination Entertainment, to produce an animated film based on its iconic Super Mario Bros. characters.
The president of Nintendo, Tatsumi Kimishima explained that the film would be distributed by Universal Pictures.
Although the release date is not decided.
The film is part of the company’s efforts to diversify revenue sources, since the company’s profits depend to a large extent, on the business of its gaming consoles.
That said, this week Nintendo reported the highest operating profit in the third quarter in eight years, a big news driven by the high demand for the new console, Nintendo Switch.
