We are not going on strike by Monday – Tanker drivers promises Nigerians

The Petroleum Tanker Drivers (PTD) has promised Nigerians that the union would not be going on strike on Monday, February 5, as speculated.

The PTD, a branch of Nigerian Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) said reports that the union intends to embark on a strike action is mischievous and unfounded insinuations.

A statement by the national chairman of PTD, Salimon Oladiti said the union never issued a three days warning strike notice to the federal government.
Oladiti urged Nigerians to traet the reports as rumour and ignore them.

He said: “Our attention has been drawn to a very mischievous and unfounded rumour circulating in the social media platforms that the Petroleum Tanker Drivers Branch of NUPENG issued 3 days ultimatum to the federal government of Nigeria.”

We strongly deny this information which is false, unfounded and calculated attempt to cause mischief and panic in the country,” Oladiti said.
“As a matter of fact, the leadership of the branch met with the minister of works, housing and power on Thursday 1st February 2018 where comprehensive reports of all the on going repairs and reconstructions of damaged highways were discussed and deliberated upon with further assurances of immediate palliative works on those that are in very terrible state presently.

“We want to also use this medium to assure the general public that our members will ensure that products are delivered to the fuel stations anytime products are available at the depots. There is no need to panic because we are not going on any strike.

“Similarly, we assure all our members that we shall not relent in ensuring that their interests and wellbeing receive adequate attentions and considerations at all time,” Oladiti noted.
