Liverpool are hoping to land Jack Wilshere on a free transfer at the end of the season, according to reports.
Liverpool lost Philippe Coutinho in the January transfer window as he was sold to Barcelona for £142million, while Emre Can is expected to join Juventus at the end of the season.
Manager Jurgen Klopp missed the chance to land a replacement last month and has now turned his attention to Arsenal’s Jack Wilshere, according to the Sun.
The England international’s contract is due to expire in the summer and he has yet to agree on an extension at the Emirates Stadium.
The Gunners have offered him a reduced deal from his current £90,000-a-week because of his injury problems.
But the Sun say that Liverpool will match his current contract if he follows former team-mate Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and moves to Merseyside.
Wilshere is still in negotiations with the Arsenal hierarchy but talks have hit a stand-still.
So Klopp is hoping to snap up a bargain in one of England’s most talented midfielders.
Liverpool great Phil Thompson thinks Wilshere would be a great signing for the Reds.
Emre Can looks set to join Juventus at the end of the season.
He said: “I would take him at Liverpool — he’s got that much ability.
“I’ve always been a great lover of him.”
Former Arsenal star Paul Merson added: “I think Liverpool would take him all day long.”
Liverpool will also benefit from the transfer of Naby Keita in the summer, who will join from RB Leipzig.
