Mark Zuckerberg’s social network has been announcing for years that they are working on a button to express a negative or disgusting feeling towards a post. Now is seem that button is become a reality, given that they are testing a “dislike” button.
Some lucky users have discovered by surprise a new button to interact with the comments and posts of their friends. It is a “negative vote” button, similar to the one offered by platforms such as Reddit.
After Zuckerberg confirmed that they are working on a “dislike” button, although they had not yet decided what it would be like or what it would express.
That a social network offers the possibility of expressing something negative towards a post is delicate. Zuckerberg has been quoted in some interviews saying that they wanted to “solve those situations as when someone posts that one of their relatives died and the only reaction we could offer in the social network was a “like”, something that was wrong and very bad.” This was solved with the reactions of emotions (those that allow sending an emoji from a crying face or a very happy one), but users still look for something to express rejection or disagreement with a post.
The “negative feedback” has always worked on Reddit and other platforms, so it is understandable that Facebook considers it.
However, a Facebook representative who spoke with The Daily Beast denied that the company is “testing a dislike button” before giving information about why it is performing the test.
“We are not testing a dislike button. We are exploring a feature for people to give us feedback about comments on public page posts. This is running for a small set of people in the U.S. only.”
