Breaking: South African President Jacob Zuma resigns

South African President Jacob Zuma resigns

The South African president, Jacob Zuma, announced his immediate resignation on Wednesday, after his party, the African National Congress (ANC) threatened to dismiss him with a motion of censure.

Zuma, weakened by a scandal involving the diversion of public funds, announced in a televised address to the nation that he had “reached the decision to resign as president of the Republic for immediate purposes.”

The debate on the early exit of the president, with a mandate until 2019, is detonated by his bad image and by the serious corruption scandals that surround him.
