The Volkswagen T-Roc Cabrio, ready to arrive in 2020
The convertible variant of the Volkswagen T-Roc has been confirmed by the German manufacturer. It will reach the market in 2020 and its production will take place at the Osnabrück factory.
At least until a new trend emerges, SUVs will continue to be the public’s main preferences. Manufacturers try to meet the needs of customers by covering more segments and convertible crossovers seem to be the next target.
Speaking of Volkswagen, its SUV’s range already amount to 40% of the brand’s global sales and estimate that this percentage will increase in the coming years. That is why the German manufacturer is planing to enrich its current range which includes Touareg, Tiguan and T-Roc, with a convertible version.
There is still no official information about the T-Roc Cabrio 2020 , although the first rumors suggest that the crossover will use a retractable canvas hood with electric drive. Like the conventional model, it will use the modular MQB platform and will have four seats.
Its range of engines is likely to be the same as the conventional T-Roc , that is to say that it will use the turbocharged engines TSI in versions of 1.0 liter and 115 hp and the TSI EVO of 1.5 liter that develops 150 hp of power and 2.0 liter TSI with 190 hp, in addition to the 2.0-liter TDI diesel in versions of 150 and 190 hp.
The Volkswagen Group will invest 80 million euros to adapt the facilities of the Osnabrück factory in Germany, where this new convertible crossover will be produced.
With a world premiere dated to 2020, the convertible Volkswagen T-Roc could debut as a prototype in the coming months or already in its production format towards the end of next year .
