As we know it, smartphones are the center of today’s tech industry. The evolution of mobile phones has reached a point where these handheld computers replace not only classic mobile phones of other eras but almost stand-in for simple gadgets like photo cameras, music players, organizer and much more. Hence, they focus so much attention on marketing, and their sales are in hundreds of millions each year.
Sales of mobile phones have been growing steadily for years, but it seems that in 2017 there was a small bump. For the first time in a long time, the mobile market shrank. Not too much, only 0.5% according to the estimated data of IDC, but enough to suffer a setback, although everything seems to recover gradually.
A growth of 2.9% per year until 2022
According to data from the IDC consultancy, the mobile market will recover from this small slump that has placed 2017 sales at 1.6 billion phones worldwide. For the consultants, they predict a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 2.8% over the 2017-2022 forecast period to reach 1.68 billion units in 2022.
The IDC data show other types of information, such as the sales of operating systems other than iOS or Android will be insignificant by 2022.
According to IDC, by 2022 sales of other OS will hardly exceed 700,000 units worldwide, adding that the mobile sector is currently a duopoly between Google and Apple.
According to data presented by IDC, based on their estimates, Google will hoard 85.5% of mobile phones sales by 2022. While Apple will do the same with 14.4% market, leaving a tiny gap for alternatives.
