Apple would be preparing the launch of acheaper 13-inch MacBook Air in the second quarter of 2018 as revealed by Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities. The analyst cites sources close to the production line used by the company.
Currently the MacBook Air 13 ” is sold for $ 999 in the United States and three hundred thousand naira in Nigeria.
Kuo did not give price details but believes that the new economic model would lift MacBooks sales by 10 to 15% during 2018.
The price change does not necessarily mean a new design for the MacBook Air, it could simply be a simple price reduction as the components used for its manufacture continue to go down. Another thing that remains unknown is the screen type, but very likely the new MacBook Air is offered with new and better processors, especially models without the vulnerability of Meltdown and Specter. There is also the question of whether they will maintain USB-A ports or finally update to USB-C like the other portable models.
