Taraba State Police Command, yesterday, confirmed that four persons were killed and several houses razed following upheaval in Kunini village of Lau Local Government Council of the state.
The unrest, the Command said erupted during a traditional masquerade festival in Wailawa, between the leaders of the festival and some members of the community suspected to be Fulani. While two died as a result of the crisis, the other two died during a gun battle.
In a statement by the Public Relations Officer (PPRO), David Misal, the Command regretted that despite efforts to ensure peace, some miscreants staged reprisal attack.
According to him, while a peace meeting was about to start, a gunshot was heard from the surrounding community, which he said heightened tension among residents of the community.
Also, the Plateau State Police Command, yesterday, said men suspected to be Fulani herdsman, who attacked members of Zanwra area, Jebbu Miango, Bassa LGA, killed three persons.
Meanwhile, the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders’ Association (MACBAN), Plateau State Chapter, has complained of brutal attacks and incessant killings of Fulani herdsmen in Heipang-Kassa-Barkin Ladi Roads and frequent cattle rustling by the Beroms and the Irigwe.It said this in a statement to the Commandant, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) signed by MACBAN Chairman, Muhammad Nuru Abdullahi.
