An official of the Gombe state Emergency Management Agency, Lamis Benjamin Thursday said that from May to August 2018 about 8 people were killed and over 200 houses destroyed by the flood in the State.
Lamis, who is the Deputy Director Rescue and Rehabilitation of the agency, made the disclosure while speaking to Journalists in Gombe.
She said three people had lost their lives during a three hours heavy rainfall in Jekadafari, Nasarawo, Tudun Wada, all in the state capital on the 27 May 2018.
She said five people were also killed by a flood at Cham in Balanga local government area with 60 houses and livestock worth millions of naira destroyed in the area on 16 August 2018.
The Deputy Director added that about 80 houses were destroyed by the flood caused by rainfall on 16 May 2018 in Yaba and Komta in Billiri local government area
Lamis said that the agency has distributed about 1200 bags maize to the affected communities in Balanga and Billiri local government areas.
Giving a breakdown of the 1200 bags said to have been distributed to 150 victims of Komta village, she said 300 bags were given to Yaba people in Billiri Local government area and others were given to victims in Cham, Jessu and Yalde communities in Balanga local government area of the State.
